The Capo Scalambri campground is located in the far south of Sicily, right on the sea at Punta Secca, where the television series "Il Commissario Montalbano" was shot. At the foot of the Iblei mountains in an oasis of peace and tranquillity, surrounded by sand dunes, pine groves, Mediterranean maquis and a crystal clear sea, the temperate climate softened by warm African breezes will make your stay even more enjoyable. The campground is only a few kilometers from Santa Croce Camerina and stands on 5 hectares of land. It is used for greenhouse cultivation of vegetables like tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, green peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe and watermelon, which are generally offered to guests when in season. Accommodations include picturesque cottages and small apartments immersed in the green countryside. The facility was built in the 1970's and 1980's, and lodgings are all very practical and simply furnished in modern style. There are accommodations for a total of 30 people, in various arrangements. Almost all accommodations are handicapped accessible. There is an equipped area for camping and camper parking with a self-cleaning sump (camper service). Other than Easter, the area is open from April to October, with advance reservations required and a minimum stay of 4-5 days. The mid-August dinner is characteristic and unforgettable, and is generally organized in honor of the guests. Languages spoken are English and French. The campground has a large playground and enormous area where children can play in total freedom. Life in the campground is essentially out of doors. In addition to participating in the numerous organized activities, guests can enjoy the opportunities offered by the nearby beach and pristine water that washes the Sicilian channel. The sea is full of fish and is an ideal place for fishing enthusiasts. As the coast is very close to Africa, it is also possible to go bird watching and observe various species of migratory birds, which add a note of cheer as guests waken in the morning. Finally, guests can walk through the characteristic dunes and Mediterranean maquis with the unique fragrance of many species of native vegetation, making the entire coast of Sicily's deep south uniquely appealing. Guests can rent bicycles for adults and children. At present, there is no food service available, but accommodations all have hot and cold water, a refrigerator, kitchen and stove, as well as the necessary dishware. Nearby are restaurants, trattorias and agritourism facilities with restaurant services, where guests can enjoy the typical cuisine of the area.
